best steam mop for tile floors

how-to-find-best-steammopWhen I went into a new apartment last year, the first thing that struck my sight was the cleanliness and hygiene levels of the tiles. When compared to my previous apartment, these tiles looked much better creating a little heaven for me. i swore to maintain the same level of cleanliness whatever comes may.

It was after that decision that i began my search for the best steam mop for tiles.  I was greatly surprised by the number of individuals who were in search of the same information i was looking for.

I bought the best of the best and almost every brand of what my relatives and friends viewed to be the creme of the crop, I knew exactly where I was going to test my new toys out.  I had a special section of tile in my kitchen that always caught the good stuff.  Years of grease from my skillets and spilled spaghetti sauce from those countless nights of frugal meals.  Steam Mops get ready for war!!

Here are a few of the qualities I was looking for in a steam mop for  tile floors:

Efficiency: Just like everyone else, I had high expectations that the best steam mop for tiles would 10 times easier to use than that of the normal squeeze mops. I took the small section of tiles i had isolated for my experiment and stained it with all sorts of sticky household substances that I could get my hands on from raw eggs, tooth paste, pancake syrup, hair spray, barbecue sauce, oatmeal, olive oil, and even peanut butter. I let my experiment goo sit over night and get nice and crusty for battle royale of the best steam mops in the morning.

The Best Steam Mop For Tiles

Early the next morning, I woke up early excited to see which steam mop would rain victorous and which would fall to the victor.  After a delicious breakfast of ham and eggs, Here is what I discovered.

Very few of the major brands were able to eliminate majority of the spills in the first two attempts. Majority of them were not very effective and only eliminated the stains after four or five attempts. This was very disappointing to me.  I had hoped that I might discover a diamond in the rough or even better a cleaning magic wand.  But to my dismay I did not.

Killing Germs: Most of my selected brands released a steam that was 200 farenheits hot which is a temperature too hot for germs to survive unless the germs are aliens.

Safety: I realized that most of the models left some moisture on the tiles which could cause damage. In addition, the residual moisture caused the tile to be quite slippery which can be hazardous particularly if you have kids in the house. Moisture will eventually result into mildew and other unsightly lines that lead to a dull look.

Top 3 Steam Mops for Tile Floors

Sienna Aqua Pro Steam Mop

Sienna Aqua ProThe Sienna Aqua Pro Steam Mop cleans just as well as the others at removing sticky deposits, it performed extremely well at removing oily type deposits.  The steamer heated up quickly, and the water tank is removable making it very easy to fill.  But trying to get the tank off of the steamer can be a very difficult, kinda defeats the purpose of a “removable tank”.   One downside is that I could only clean for 15 minutes before having to fill up the water tank again. Also, I had to manually attach the cleaning cloth to the bottom of the mop.

Oreck Steam Mop

oreck steam-itThe Oreck Steam-It All Purpose Steam Mop proved to be among the very best we used to clean tiles and grout. It cut through some pretty big messes eliminating most of the stains with the second swoop. Even Better was it for almost 30 minutes before I had to refill it again, which was more than enough time to clean and sanitize the floors.  Other than tiles, it was also great on hard floors and had attachments for windows and toilets. The only downside with the Oreck steam mop was that the steam mop pad was held on with clips, and based on previous reviews the clips can break.

Reliable Steamboy T2 Sweep-and-Steam Mop

Steamboy T2The Reliable Steamboy T2 Sweep-and-Steam Mop also qualified in my search for the best steam mop for tiles. It removed the sticky and oily stains satisfactorily. It had a removable water tank, stood upright on its own and it’s cleaning cloth fitted automatically
